Take One Goes Virtual / New Work
Annapolis, MD – November, 14th, 2013
So, what’s new? A lot! We’ve downsized our office to the rear of our 1415 Forest Drive location allowing our awesome employees to telecommute. We’ve loved every minute of our 15 years on Forest Drive but as we’ve embraced new technologies and new ways to work, we’ve found there really isn’t much need for this much space, and frankly, as much as we loved the flexibility of our stage, it wasn’t paying for itself. So, we’ve downsized to an Avid edit suite and ProTools suite in the rear of the same building. For family health reasons Dan Powell has relocated to Naples, Florida and has set-up two Avid stations to service a whole new set of clients in Southwest Florida. Dan will continue to be our lead editor for all projects and will travel back to Maryland for shoots/editing as needed. What we are finding is that as we make these changes, we’re able to streamline our services, work more efficiently, and broaden our outreach.
Second, we’ve had a productive summer and fall! We’ve been fortunate enough to work on some very creative websites and video projects that we’d love to share with you.
We rock! Literally, we rocked the American Geological Institute’s new Center for Geoscience Education & Public Understanding website anyway…
www.geocntr.org not only is the site gorgeous visually, it features extensive databases of geoscience information. Geocntr.org is perhaps the most comprehensive Geoscience resource in the world. The core of the site contains 13 custom programmed databases the client can manage via uploading from Excel and online in WordPress. Each database is searchable and the display of the data can be controlled through shortcodes (a simple tag in WordPress posts) to fully control what fields are displayed, what fields are searchable and where to display the database on any page. There are over 1,500 (and growing) entries of geoscience resources available.
www.x9.org We’ve also just launched a new site for X9—Accredited Standards Committee. This is another WordPress site with great functionality and connection to a members’ only intranet. When X9 came to us, they wanted a site that they could maintain themselves, organized their wealth of information, AND was nice to look at! We think you’ll understand better if you take a look at the before and then the after below!. X9 is thrilled with the outcome and has already enlisted our help in more of their media collateral.
Speaking of WordPress, did you know it’s used by 18.9% of the top 10 million websites today? It’s also the most popular blogging system in use on the web. WordPress is a free, open source blogging and content management system based on PHP and MySQL and runs on a web hosting service. WordPress may be exactly what you need to bring your site up to date. We love working in it and we’ve created this little “tour” of how it works and what you can expect working with us on your WordPress site. Learn more here and then call us!
On the video front, Take One wrapped the production of a mainstay in medical education, the 11th edition of Bates’ Visual Guide to Physical Assessment. It took over 4,000 man/women hours to complete this 450 minute video series for Wolters Kluwer Health | Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins. Bates is the most comprehensive video training for medical students in the world. Our team handled the entire project from scriptwriting, production, set design/construction, post production, close captioning, and Spanish sub-titling. The series is offered to medical schools as an online ancillary product to enhance the textbook learning objectives. So, the next time you are at the doctor’s office and are impressed with your care, perhaps you’ve got our video series to thank. (We’ll keep telling ourselves that anyway!)
We are stronger and more productive than ever and just wanted to make sure you knew what was new with us. We’re ready when you are to discuss how we can work with you…wherever you are and with whatever you need! Take One Digital Media—changing to bring you our best.
